What’s “sliding scale” pricing?

See the explanation here.

Where is the Studio Located?

We are about ten minutes west of Chapel Hill, NC. Directions are shared after you sign up for a workshop. Follow the signs on the driveway for STUDIO to the general parking area near the main house, or down to the studio building for accessible parking. The studio is on a gravel driveway, and cars can be parked very close if needed. There is a tiny step from the gravel to the concrete floor of the porch, and a small step from the porch to go inside if use of the sink is needed, but there is also a hose outside. There are fans and lights. Unless requested otherwise, there is often music. Restroom is located inside the main house, also off the gravel driveway.

what do I need to bring with me to a workshop?

After registration, an email will be sent to the address you provide at checkout with details for the class you signed up for.

Why is masking still required indoors?

It’s important to us that this studio be accessible to a broad range of people, and that it can be a place for everyone to feel safe to come and build community. Not requiring masks would make this studio unsafe for those who are at a greater health risk or live with someone who is, or who simply don’t wish to risk an infection to take a class. When masking is the default, it ensures that this is expressly a place for folks still taking COVID and other precautions to feel welcomed. Masking outdoors on the studio porch is not required, but of course is allowed.

What determines the price of workshops?

The price listed on the class signup page is a combination of material cost and instructor labor. Material cost is both determined by the price of the single-use goods required per student (like the linoleum in a stamp workshop) as well as the expected wear-and-tear on reusable materials (like the blades used to carve linoleum, which dull with use). If you have further questions about price, or you want to set up a payment plan, please let us know.

How much does a private workshop cost?

Private workshops start at $100 plus a per-person material cost, which depends on the activity. Generally, topics like embroidery or collage are cheaper than more materially-intensive topics like spoon-carving or clay classes. Please reach out to discuss specifics.

What if I need to cancel after enrolling?

Please send us an email, and we will work out the details. 100% refund available with 1 week notice. After that, refunds are dependent on how much preparation has already been made. This is the case for both public and private events. If we have to cancel or reschedule a workshop, full refunds will be available.

the workshop i want to join is full. What can i do?

Let us know! We may be able to accommodate extra students as space and equipment allows. If the class size is firm, this can still help inform how often we offer similar classes, and we can let you know if anyone ends up cancelling.
